DIALOGUE TODAY
SCENE WHERE RICHIE’S BODY WAS FOUND - ZACH & JESSE
[Zach sighs]
Zach: Seriously. You think the cops were necessary?
Jesse: Would you have come with me, if I would have asked you nicely?
Zach: No, probably not.
Jesse: Yeah. They were necessary. I got a witness, zach, that says that Richie told him you were the guy that beat him up and threatened to kill him.
Zach: And who is this witness? Annie Lavery? I guess it doesn’t matter. So why are we here at this alleged scene of the crime?
Jesse: Well, your story is that you didn’t kill the guy, right? So I need to know what did happen.
Zach: Told you what happened.
Jesse: Well, I guess I need you to show me then.
Zach: Jesse, I’m here. What do you need?
Jesse: I need you to walk me through the events of the evening. Step by step, please, starting with when you got to the cabin.
Zach: Ahem. Ok. When Aidan and Junior and myself got there, the girls had Richie tied up.
Jesse: But he wasn’t?
Zach: Not for long, no. We got inside, and he was gone.
Jesse: So, then, what did you do?
Zach: We were looking for him inside the cabin, then outside. Couldn’t find him. And the girls were scared, so everyone wanted to go home.
Jesse: Everyone but you.
Zach: Everyone but me. I went looking for Novak. Junior was taking care of Babe, and Aidan was taking care of Kendall and Greenlee until you got there.
Jesse: Then you figured you’d take care of Novak.
Zach: Yes. And I got in the car and headed north.
Zach: Quickest way out of town, Jesse.
Jesse: So you’re driving along. You’re looking for Novak.
Zach: And, then, I saw him, face down on the road. That’s when I called you. He wasn’t breathing. Hey, if I had found him, who knows? But I wasn’t sorry.
Jesse: And that’s it? You didn’t see anything else? No car, no person, nothing?
Zach: No, that’s it. That was weird. It’s funny. I was looking around. Then, wow, nice. Somebody took care of my troubles.
Jesse: All right, Novak’s probable cause of death was blunt-force trauma to the head.
Zach: Caused by a car.
Jesse: You’d think, out here in the middle of the road.
Zach: There’s a “but,” right?
Jesse: But. All right, listen. Check it out, check it out. If I’m Richie, and I’m running, and there’s a car that comes up behind me, sees me, what would happen?
Zach: Well, if it was an accident, I hope somebody’s going to hit the breaks.
Jesse: Bingo, no skid marks, nothing to indicate that the vehicle tried to avoid impact, but if it wasn’t an accident — all right, say — say you’re running, right, and you’re running. You hear a car come behind you. What would you do?
Zach: I’ll go hide in the woods.
Jesse: Richie didn’t do that.
Zach: Or I’ll turn around and see what’s coming.
Jesse: In which case, the impact would’ve been to the front of the body. So why weren’t there any defensive wounds?
Zach: Well, there was a lot of blood on the ground.
Jesse: That’s from the head.
Zach: From where he hit his head on the ground.
Jesse: Yeah, it’s possible. Could’ve — could’ve been enough to put a killer-sized dent in the guy’s head.
Zach: But you’re not buying it?
[Jesse sighs]
Jesse: The autopsy says the guy was struck by a car. It doesn’t add up for me.
Zach: So you think novak was killed by something other than a car?
Jesse: It’s possible. I mean, we know the man died from a blow to the head, right?
Zach: Before the hit and run?
Jesse: Or after.
Zach: So what do you — what do you think? Someone came back to finish him off?
Jesse: Or the two aren’t even related, Zach.
Zach: All right. Uh, so, someone knocked him in the skull and then left him there for dead, and —
Jesse: And ran him over after the fact.
Zach: How do we find out?
Jesse: Evidence never lies, right?
Zach: That’s what they tell me.
Jesse: So I need to go back to the source. I need to see Novak’s body again.
AT PVPD
Kendall: Oh, my god. Thank god. There you are.
Zach: Hey.
Kendall: Hey, I — I — I came here, and they said there was no record of your arrest. Are you ok?
Zach: I’m fine.
Kendall: Ok, well, then what — what happened?
Zach: Hey, just calm down. , Uh, went and looked at the accident site one more time.
Kendall: What do you mean? Where — where you found Richie?
Zach: Yeah.
Kendall: Ok, I — I don’t understand. Is my husband arrested or — or not?
Jesse: At the moment, no.
Kendall: Well, then, why did you cuff him at Fusion?
Zach: Well, because he needed me to go with him.
Kendall: You couldn’t have asked?
Jesse: Zach?
Zach: No.
Kendall: Ok, what did you do when you went down there?
Zach: I walked him through what I saw the night that Richie was killed.
Kendall: All right, you’ve already questioned Zach once. Why did you need to talk to him again?
Zach: He’s trying to come up with more theories, that’s all.
Kendall: Ok, so then you know that someone else besides zach was responsible.
Jesse: Well, I’m not ruling anything out yet.
Kendall: Well, you must have found something at that site.
Jesse: Just more questions, but at least I know where to look for the answers.
[On the phone]
Jesse: O’Malley, Hubbard here.
Kendall: Who’s he calling?
Zach: The morgue. He wants to look at Richie’s body one more time.
Jesse: When did this happen? Are you sure?
Zach: What?
Jesse: Damn it. He’s gone.
AT THE MORGUE…
Annie: Hi. I’m Annie Lavery. You called about my brother.
Man: Oh, yes, of course. One second.
Man: I’m sorry for your loss, Mrs. Lavery.
[He hands her Richie's creamated remains]
Annie: Thank you.

OFF A&J TOPIC BUT IT’S TAD & KATHY

AT TAD’S HOUSE
Tad: So, then, the fairy princess jumped on her four-wheeler, so she could do doughnuts in the backyard.
Kathy: That’s not what it says.
Tad: It doesn’t? Are you sure?
Kathy: Yes.
Tad: Hmm. Hi, baby.
Krystal: Hey. Hey. What are you two doing?
Tad: Oh, you know. The usual. Reading stories. Working on a sugar rush. You want a cookie?
Krystal: Uh, no. Kathy, are — aren’t you, uh, supposed to be headed out to camp?
Tad: Ah, well, Kathy wasn’t feeling well this morning, so we decided that camp could take a hike, right?
Kathy: Yeah!
Krystal: Yeah, but, I mean, you’re all signed up, honey. They’re expecting you.
Kathy: I don’t want to go to camp.
Tad: It’s ok, sunshine. You don’t have to go, if you don’feel like it.
Krystal: Or maybe you should give it a shot, Kathy. I mean — camp — camp is fun. I think you’ll have a great time once you get there.
Kathy: No, I’m not going, and you can’t make me.
Krystal: That’s just perfect, Tad. Thank you. Thanks a lot.
