OKAY HERE WE GO…
HUBBARD BROWNSTONE - Angie’s going ballistic on our man Jesse. Telling him if he took the police job…he keeps trying to slow her down and finally manages to get a word in and tells her he took the PVU job. She is so relieved and hugs him. End scene.
DIALOGUE:
Angie: You took the job!
Jesse: Yes, I did, Angie —
Angie: Jesse Hubbard, I swear, if you get shot down dead in the street in the line of fire —
Jesse: Lady, wou you listen to me?
Angie: No, swear, if you get — die out there and then — then some — posing as some police chief hero —
Jesse: Angela, would you back the train — slow the train down? I am trying to tell you that I did not take the chief-of-police position. I took the position at PVU. You are now looking at PVU’s new professor of criminology.
Angie: Oh, Jesse.
INTRO MUZAK…BACK AT THE BROWNSTONE — Angie can’t believe that Jesse really took the job and she’s eva thankful for it. She is concerned that he isn’t going to like it and even though she wants him out of the police job, she knows he’s really sacrificing himself to do this for her. She tells him how much she loves him for doing this and he says he’ll get his thrill setting up cases for his students, doing forensics, etc. and watching them solve it. They start a mini honeymoon and the kids walk in. Angie tells them they are celebrating and that Jesse is a PVU prof now. They both looked shocked and you can tell think it’s not a good idea. End scene.
COMMERCIALS…
BROWNSTONE AGAIN - The kids split off with each parent. Frankie and Jesse sit and talk in the living room area. Frankie really is working against his mother on this and tells Jesse he doesn’t think him being a prof is his calling so to speak. Jesse asks him if he’s dis’ing him and he tells him no. They talk more about it and Jesse tells him how he missed his family for 20 years and this is good situation for them all the way around - he never went to college so this is something he wants to do too. Frankie finally tells Jesse that the students will be lucky to have him.
Over in the kitchen area, Cass an Angie have a convo. Cass tells Angie that Jesse better stop this superman routine or she’ll have to stop hating him (she’s a troublemaker). Angie asks what she means and says she thought Jesse and her were getting along. Cass tells her she was just kidding - we all know she’s not.
DIALOGUE:
Jesse: Yeah, good stuff, man. You should see the lab.
Frankie: Oh, I can’t wait. Big fan of the microscope.
Jesse: Yeah, I will be able to set up crime scenes, recreate cold cases. I’m going to be prepping these kids for the academy, the bureau, wherever they want to go. Frankie: Oh, well, it all sounds good, dad.
Jesse: Actually, son, better than good. I mean, I didn’t even get to go to college myself, and I’m about to teach at a college?
Frankie: And guess what? You even get to select your own textbook.
Jesse: Yes, I guess I better get to reading these bad mamma jammas, huh?
Frankie: Yeah, but that ain’t you.
Jesse: Wait a minute. Was that a dis?
Frankie: No, I’m — I’m just saying. You’re a man who likes to take in on the action, work real cases. Are you really sure you want to spend the rest of your life in front of a blackboard?
[Cassandra sighs]
Cassandra: If Jesse keeps up this whole super-husband routine, it’s going to be really hard to keep hating him.
Angie: I thought you two were getting along.
Cassandra: We are. Relax, I’m just kidding.
Angie: Girl, give me those tomatoes.
Cassandra: You happy about his new job?
Angie: I’m thrilled, and I think he’s excited, too, about the opportunity.
Cassandra: If you say so.
Angie: You don’t?
Cassandra: Mom, come on. You know he’s doing this for you.
[Angie sighs]
Angie: All right. I know it’s selfish, but I love Jesse too much to see him do something that’s going to take him away again. Now, does that make me a horrible person?
Cassandra: Look, he came back from the dead to you. You have every right to want to spend the rest of your life with him. And Jesse wants that, too.
Jesse: It’s a good job, Franklin. It’s better than a guy like me ever thought he deserved.
Frankie: Yeah, but is that what you want?
Jesse: Look, I lost 20 years with my wife and my kid. Look at us now, man. All four of us under the same roof. That’s a miracle. You know what? It’s the american dream, kid. Four careers — well, ok, three-and-a-half careers, happy, healthy family. Come on.
Frankie: Well, I have to admit, those students are going to be pretty lucky to have you.
Jesse: I’m the lucky one. Matter of fact, I’m the luckiest guy I know.
BACK AT THE BROWNSTONE - Frankie needs to get to work as the rest of the family settles in to eat the marvelous spread Angie has made. Frankie tells her he doesn’t have time to eat and she tells Jesse to tell his son he has to eat something. So Jesse tells him to do so. Frankie relents and takes a biscuit and Angie tells him that’s not a meal. He makes a crack about eating chicken because he’s black and they all laugh. He leaves for the hospital and Cass, Jesse and Angie sit at the table. Angie asks them to pray with her as they have a lot to be thankful for as a family. She prays as Jesse watches on and you can feel their love through the square box we are watching!
FINAL SCENES TODAY…
AT THE BROWNSTONE - Angie goes to get a photo album from the day which leaves Jesse and Cass alone for a few minutes. Cass suggests to Jesse that he’s really doing all this for her mom and she’s almost like baiting him to admit that he really wants to be a cop instead, etc. Jesse tells her in no uncertain terms that he’s happy to be doing this for the family, etc. Angie overhears this part as she re-enters the room. End scene.
Angie and Jesse look through the photo album together and he tells her this is a whole new life. She asks again about him being okay with this and he basically tells her it’s all good. He holds her and you can see he’s thinking he really wants to be a cop. End scene.
End episode.
REST OF DIALOGUE FROM TODAY….
Angie: Where’s your brother? Food’s getting cold.
Cassandra: Filbert!
Frankie: I’m coming, I’m coming. I — I got to get back to the hospital.
Angie: I thought you were of today.
Frankie: Yeah, but an intern called in sick.
Cassandra: More for me.
Frankie: Greedy.
Angie: Well, go ahead and take something to eat.
Frankie: Ah, I don’t have no time for that.
Angie: Will you talk to your son?
Jesse: Well, you don’t be dissing your mother, too. Eat something, boy!
[Frankie sighs]
Frankie:Ll right. See?
Angie: That’s not a meal.
Frankie: What, do you want me to grab a piece of chicken be — oh, because I’m black?
Angie: Oh, well, I’ll smack —
Frankie: Huh, huh, see, see? Uh-uh. I’m going to grab a piece, though. You satisfied?
Angie: Just go — go — I’ll see you at the hospital.
Frankie: Congrats on the job again, dad.
Jesse: Thank you, Franklin.
Frankie: Hey, you know what? Think of it this way. Indiana jones was a teacher, too, but he still manages to keep things interesting.
Jesse: No, you didn’t just compare me to Harrison Ford?
Angie: Franklin, go to work. Frankie: I’ll see you around, professor Hubbard.
Jesse: Oh! That’s kind of a nice ring to it, don’t you think?
Cassandra: Oh, no doubt.
Angie: All right, let’s say grace, because we have got a lot to be thankful for.
Jesse: All right, here we go.
[Angie sighs]
Angie: Lord, thank you for this wonderful day with my family. Thank you for my beautiful daughter, my talented son, and my wonderful, wonderful husband, who did a very selfless thing today by putting his family’s happiness, our happiness, above his own aspirations. We are truly grateful for the life that we have together, and we know that it is because of your blessing. Amen.
Cassandra: Amen, ok.
Jesse: Amen.
Cassandra: Now, please, pass the rolls, s’il vous plait. Thank you.
Jesse: Let’s eat!
Angie: I want to go get my old photo album. There’s some beautiful pictures of the university in it.
Cassandra: Yeah, and some throwback pictures of you wearing shoulder pads in there, too.
Jesse: Oh, the shoulder pads.
Angie: I’ll be right back. Jesse: Unbelievable.
[Jesse sighs]
Cassandra: You know, I was actually thinking of, um, of going to pvu this fall.
Jesse: Oh, yeah? You worried about me messing up your swerve by being on campus?
Cassandra: I have not met a man that can get in the way of this kind of fabulous, ok?
Jesse: Oh, listen to you.
[Cassandra laughs]
Jesse: You sound just like your mother.
Cassandra: I’m kidding.
Jesse: Got to love a woman with confidence, man. I’m telling you.
Cassandra: No, but seriously, Jesse. I think what you’re doing for my mom is tres, tres cool. Like, really cool. I do not think I could give up my art or writing for a man.
Jesse: Please. Your mother would make you reconsider if artists, painters, and writers carried guns instead of pencils, paint brushes, and pens.
Cassandra: Ok —
Jesse: Trust me!
Cassandra: You know what I’m talking about.
Jesse: Yeah, wel you know. It’s really not that bad.
Cassandra: I know I haven’t known you that long, but I do know how much you loved being a cop, right? Somewhat like a spiritual calling for you?
Jesse: Well, my only calling is loving your mother, all right? She deserves a happy, safe life, and this job at the university, going to give that to us.
Cassandra: So you are doing this for her?
Jesse: Didn’t just say “us”? Eh? I’m doing this for both of — I’m doing it for all of us. And it’s not that big a sacrifice. Your mother, she is my world without her, I got nothing, and, no, I don’t regret making the decision one bit.
Jesse: Whole new life.
Angie: Thank you for making this ok.
Jesse: It’s all good. Actually, I’m kind of proud of my new academic cred. But I’m more proud of this family.
Angie: Oh, yep. Aren’t we something?
Jesse: Check it out. A doctor, a professor. Wow, it would be nice to hear what Enid Nelson says about that, right?
Angie: Jesse, I know what a sacrifice you’re making for us, and as much as I hate asking you to do it, I am so happy that you’re going to be safe.
Jesse: Ask — ask on, ask on. I mean, you, Frankie, Cassandra, you’re all that matters to me.
Angie: Well, I just need you to know how much I love you.
Jesse: I do know how much you love me. Trust me.
