OKAY HERE WE GO…
AT THE MARINA - Angie and Jesse arrive for a picnic breakfast. Angie is having a grumbly day, picking on him about everything. He asks her if she’s going to pick on him all day and she says no. It’s not gonna be a good day for the Hubbards. She tells him she knows he’s not thrilled to turn down the polic chief job and he makes a crack about that being true. He says it’s time to move on past these 20 years and she asks if he thinks that her broken heart isn’t real. He tells her no, but maybe them coasting back into happy times was a little too easy. Life is hard, people get hurt, things happen. Angie tells him she knows that and he tells her then she should know grown-up life can be messy and complicated and they have a lot to hash out. “Maybe,” she says. Jesse tells her they should go ahead and get it started right now, hash things out, right here. End scene.
COMMERCIALS
BACK AT THE MARINA - Jesse tells Angie that she’s giving him orders about his career. She tells him she’s not, she just told him what she could live with and him being on the force is not on her list. He says he needs to have a reason to get out of bed and she asks if that means his family isn’t enough reason. She goes on to tell him that he’d be an amazing teach at PVU. He tells her maybe she’s right, but right now he’s still a cop. “It’s not what I do, it’s who I am,” he says. She tells him he spent 20 years being a cop and he tells her that he’s gonna do this, just give him a little time to get over it - it’s not going to be easy for him to adjust not being a cop. Angie asks him if this all has to be one big favor for her - she just assumed he’d like to stay alive and be with his family (that’s hitting low Angie). Now he’s getting a big angry and tells her that being a police chief doesn’t mean he’ll be in the line of fire. “I don’t care what it means,” she screams at him. Then she drops the biggest ball of all and tells him that his being a cop means Yvonne Caldwell, the woman who broke them up way back when and it’s not going to happen again. He’s trying to calm her down, but she tells him no, it’s not going to happen. End scene.
BACK @ MARINA - Jesse cannot belive Angie just said that to him about Yvonne and tells her that him being on the police force is not even like cheating on her. She agrees she went too far about bringing up Yvonne. (We all know she’s grasping at straws to keep him safe.) He tells her they want him, Jesse Hubbard from centre city to be their police chief. Here’s their dialogue:
Angie: Jesse, I’m not saying you don’t deserve it.
Jesse: But I can’t have it?
Angie: Not if you want to be safe.
Jesse: Angie, I’ve never been safe. We got married and kept our marriage a secret. That wasn’t safe.
Angie: That was different.
Jesse: I — ok. The last 20 years of my life, also not safe, but here, now —
Angie: All right, Jesse, look, you — you don’t have to tell me why you want it. I get that.
Jesse: I don’t think you do. I mean, at the hospital, they listen to you. They — they — they take your advice. They respect you. Now, here’s my chance for that.
Angie: Jesse, you know, the police force changed our lives. It changed our son’s life.
Jesse: Our son is a grown man.
Angie: No, inside, he is still that same little boy who lost his father. Look, why am I the villain here for keeping our family safe?
Jesse: What are you — I — I kept you all safe by staying away for 20 years. And it was painful. Baby, it was humiliating, and it was shameful as hell. But I did it for you. I don’t want to run anymore.
Angie: Is that what you thin I’m doing? That I’m shaming you?
END SCENE
MARINA - Angie tells Jesse that she respects him and he knows it. She tells him she would never shame him. He tells her that he didn’t say she’s doing it on purpose. She tells him that he deserves respect but what about what she deserves? You just have to read the dialogue to get a feel for how badly this is all going…
Angie: …You left me for 20 years.
Jesse: Left you?
Angie: I thought you were dead.
Jesse: Left you? Whoa!
Angie: I remembered every one of your birthdays. I — I — I lit candles in your memory. Don’t I deserve something for that? Some peace?
Jesse: Ok, now you’re freaking out. You’re freaking out about a job.
Angie: Oh, if you think this is just about a damn job —
Jesse: This is a job that I could be proud of, a job that would make me feel useful. What do you think? I want to kick back for the rest of my life and watch my wife work?
Angie: You think I want to light another candle?
Jesse: I was protecting you.
Angie: And that’s what I’m doing for you right now. Jesse, there are so many other options out there. I’m just asking you to find one that makes you happy. That is all I’m asking you.
Jesse: That’s all? Come on, Angela. You act as though I do everything without thinking of you, when all I do ever is think about you.

—FINAL A&J SCENE TODAY—
MARINA and it ain’t good…
Jesse tells Angie she’s not being rational and she so doesn’t care. “My husband came back from the dead. I’ll be irrational if I want to,” she yells at him. Here’s the rest of their dialogue for today:
Jesse: You know what? I would never ask you to give up your job.
Angie: Well, I save people’s lives. I don’t risk my life.
Jesse: And I could save lives, too, just not the angela-approved way.
Angie: Oh, come on. You know that’s not what I meant.
Jesse: You know what I’m hearing here? I’m hearing your father all over again.
Angie: What?
Jesse: Yeah. “Jesse and his cop career just ain’t good enough for you!”
Angie: You know what? You make me so — I have never been so angry in my life. You carry the damn basket.

TODAY’S DIALOGUE
Angie: Do me a favor. The next time someone asks me to cover their graveyard shift, remind me about last night.
Jesse: Hey. Did you get those bagels that I like?
Angie: It was crazy. You know, and if that test proves that Richie Novak really did steal bone marrow from J.R. Chandler — is that the craziest thing you ever heard of?
Jesse: And you got my favorite coffee in there?
Angie: Yeah, sure. And those rookies just hanging on to your every word.
Jesse: Tell you what. This looks like a good place to eat. Let’s eat, huh?
Angie: And you, Jesse Hubbard, all taking charge, giving orders.
Jesse: What? Did you bring me out here to beat me up about last night, or have breakfast?
Angie: No, I’m not —
Jesse: Angela, if you want me to say I didn’t enjoy being back in the action, that’s not going to happen.
Angie: You know, I don’t expect you to be thrilled to turn down the police chief job.
Jesse: There. We agree on that.
Angie: Is — is it wrong of me to want you around?
Jesse: Baby, you know what? At some point, we really have to move past the lost 20 years and on to the hard stuff. The real stuff. Come on.
Angie: Wait a minute. Are you saying that my broken heart wasn’t real?
Jesse: I’m just saying that maybe us coasting back into happy times was a little too easy. Real life, baby, real marriages — people get angry. People — people get hurt sometimes.
Angie: I know that.
Jesse: Well, then you should know that grown-up life can be messy, complicated. And we got a lot of messy, complicated stuff to hash out.
Angie: Yeah. Maybe.
Jesse: All right, so, you know what? Let’s do this, right here, right now. You and me, let’s have it out.
